Young AmeriTowne On the Road will make Grand Junction its home for the next three weeks.  This is the first time Young Americans Center has been able to deliver its Young AmeriTowne program to Grand Junction-area students in or near their hometown, and our staff couldn’t be more excited!

all set upOn the Road is the new, mobile version of Young AmeriTowne that debuted last fall in northern Denver.  It has nine shops, plus a Towne Hall where students work for wages during their day.  Just like our flagship Young AmeriTowne program, students visiting On the Road spend 6-8 weeks learning about economics, banking, work skills, government at school using our curriculum, which is aligned to Colorado and Common Core 5th grade standards.  Their studies culminate in a 3-4 hour visit to Towne.

The On the Road façades and crew arrived in Grand Junction on Labor Day, and they couldn’t have asked for a more supportive community.  On the Road Grand Junction is being housed by Colorado Mesa University, and in addition to providing a beautiful space, the Colorado Mesa staff has gone above and beyond to welcome On the Road.  President Tim Foster and Business Department Head Professor Dr. Morgan Bridge personally secured the site, and they reached out to the local and student community for support.  They recruited enough principals and teachers to completely fill On the volunteersRoad for its entire stay in Grand Junction.  Plus, they enlisted members of the Colorado Mesa Business Honor Club to help set up the Towne, which happened in record-setting time.

Over the next three weeks, keep a look out for social media updates and photos from On the Road Grand Junction!  Interested in finding out how On the Road can visit your community?  Read more here: https://yacenter.org/on-the-road/.
