Last week, Young Americans hosted “Friday Fest”, a free event open to the community to wrap up the school year and kick off summer.

We held this unique event on the Evie Dennis Campus with our bank branch.  It was a hit!

Smashing success

SOAR Elementary School was release first, just after 1:00 p.m.  Scores of activities and concessions greeted the students and parents.  We offered face painting, a bouncy house, a roller coaster game, fishing for REAL money, a ring toss, snow cones, popcorn, and more.  About 30 minutes later, STRIVE Prep Middle School students joined the festivities and we rolled out the hot dogs and chips.

It was a beautiful day for a celebration, and the students enjoyed themselves immensely.  There was a toy walk inside for those looking to escape the heat.  The Bank was handing out piggy banks, magnets and $5 promo tokens.  And the DJ kept things rocking all afternoon long.

Eventually, students from DSST High School, DSST Middle School and VISTA High School arrived at the party to enjoy all the offerings.

The goal of the event — aside from some great fun — was to create a place for Young Americans within the local community.  Over the past six months, our staff have enjoyed meeting students on campus and opening accounts for local families.  The Youth Advisory Council members have been incredibly helpful in getting Young Americans settled.  This event was one more way for us to join the campus community as a true partner.

What’s next?

We want to throw a party when school starts again in August.  What kind of party should we have?  An ice cream social?  A movie on the baseball field?  Tell us below in the comments section and we may use your idea in the fall!
