There is a young person in your life right now who could be eligible for a great opportunity!  Young Americans Center is seeking applications from youth business owners.  Winners will get up to $1,500, plus be matched with a local business mentor.

Playing a vital role

As an engaged adult in this community you have an important role to play: think of who this budding business owner is, and encourage him or her  to apply today!  If she has had an operating business for six months — she has sold a product or performed a service — she can apply to win the business competition.  If he hasn’t started his business yet, you can inspire him to apply him business skills over the summer by starting a new venture.

Peek at the entries

Please send interested entrepreneurs to the application at www.yacenter.wpengine.com/CYE.  We have already received some fun and creative entries:

  • A well-established jewelry business that started with a grandmother’s patient teaching is now selling at various markets around the Denver metro area and on Etsy.com.
  • An entrepreneur who realized the value of having cash in his pocket founded service business to lend a helping hand in his neighborhood for a small fee.
  • A customizable label-making business for the organizationally challenged.
  • The affiliated track has hard working students selling mascot apparel at their school.

Once the applications are electronically submitted, we send them off to our carefully selected business and education judges.  The mix of judges meets to deliberate over the candidates.  They will have a challenge determining the best of each category, but in the end they will decide on one winner ($1,000) and two finalists ($250) for each of the three independent age categories and one winner ($1,500) for the affiliated track.

The last step is the most fun!  All applicants are invited to attend the Celebration for Young Entrepreneurs formal dinner event in September.  Winners and finalists will have the opportunity to exhibit their business to the Young Americans community.  At the end of the night, each winner goes home the rewards of pride, money and mentorship.

One week to go!

If you have questions or would like a consultation on your application, you can contact Cheryl at cprenedeville@yacenter.org or Ellory eeggermont@yacenter.org. Remember the application must be submitted by bedtime this Saturday, June 8!
