Schomp Subaru Senior Client Advisor Brandon Nieves has a meaningful reason why you should Share the Love this holiday season.  One of the beneficiaries of Subaru’s annual giving campaign is Young AmeriTowne, a program that alum Nieves credits with providing financial lessons he continues to use today!

In 2005, 10-year-old Nieves was a student at Willow Creek Elementary School, a Cherry Creek School in Centennial.  To prepare for his day in Young AmeriTowne, Willow Creek teachers guided Nieves and his classmates through a six-week curriculum.  Nieves practiced writing checks and deposit slips, he learned about the difference between a checking and savings account, and he created a personal budget.

At Young AmeriTowne, Nieves worked as Vice President of the Bank.  “I remember writing checks to other business,” he said, referencing how he paid all of the Bank’s expenses, including utilities, advertising fees, and health insurance.  Nieves also managed loans provided to each of the 17 businesses in Towne and he deposited his paycheck into his personal AmeriTowne checking account so that he had some spending money to purchase snacks and toys.

Nieves went on to earn a theater degree from the University of Northern Colorado and is currently saving money to pursue a Master’s.  “It blows my mind that even as a high school and college graduate, the only formal financial education I’ve ever had was doing Young AmeriTowne in fifth grade,” he said.  “Being able to figure out money as a kid has helped me manage my own finances.  I hear so many people in my industry say they don’t know about credit cards or interest—they need this kind of education, too!”

From now until January 2nd through the Share the Love event, Subaru will make a donation of $250 to a charity of your choice and Schomp Subaru will also donate an additional $25 to Young AmeriTowne for each sold or leased vehicle.  Plus, Subaru will double every donation, up to $25, with a simple social media share.

Provide life-long lessons yourself by participating in the Share the Love event this year!
