Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars, the annual business competition and gala benefitting Young Americans Center for Financial Education is just a few weeks away! As a result, this month we’re introducing esteemed mentor Alice Jackson, President of Xcel Energy – Colorado. Jackson joins a group of distinguished Denver-area business people willing to share their experience and knowledge by mentoring an up-and-coming young entrepreneur.
Jackson joined Xcel Energy in 2011, a company that currently serves 1.4 million electric customers and 1.3 million natural gas customers in Colorado. In her role as President, Jackson has the privilege and responsibility of being able to serve each of these customers a life essential. “It is such a pleasure to serve this community,” says Jackson who lives in the Denver metro area with her husband and four sons.
An early entrepreneur, Jackson’s first paid job was soldering circuit boards for her uncle’s business. “I made a total of seven dollars for each electrical board,” laughs Jackson, who credits this work and the plethora of positions that followed with providing discipline, work ethic, direction, and a pathway to success. She balanced school, work, and other activities throughout high school and put herself through college working at a pharmacy. After college, Jackson put the lessons she learned growing up to practice as she started a career in the energy industry, one that eventually led to her current role at Xcel.
As a mentor to a young entrepreneur, Jackson is looking forward to sharing what she’s learned. “Running a business takes good planning, and you have to be able to keep moving forward, even if there’s failure,” says Jackson. “I look forward to working with an entrepreneur whose possibilities are limitless.”
Jackson’s mentee, a winner of the Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars business competition, will be announced at the gala and awards ceremony on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Limited tickets and table sponsorships are still available.
