Every year, the Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars business competition pairs three Denver-area business experts with three up-and-coming youth entrepreneurs.  The first mentor we’d like to highlight this year is Scott Wylie, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of First Western.

Mr. Wylie has much to offer a budding business person.  He has spent 31 years in the banking and finance industry, founding a number of banks before establishing First Western 14 years ago.  First Western provides banking and financial services to clients throughout the western U.S.  Just this summer, Mr. Wylie successfully navigated First Western’s initial public offering.

Philanthropy has always been important to Scott, particularly in the areas of education and in creating opportunities for youth.  He is a Trustee at Roundup River Ranch, is a long-time supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs in Denver, and is a Board Member at Colorado succeeds.  For Mr. Wylie, serving as a mentor for Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars is exciting because he will impact the “future generation of economic drivers” which are so important to the local economy.

As a mentor, he hopes to provide advice and to help his mentee build a network of support.  “I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my career,” laughs Scott, “but I try to never make the same mistake twice.  Hopefully my mentee can learn from my mistakes.”

Mr. Wylie’s mentee, a winner of the Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars business competition, will be announced at the gala and awards ceremony on October 4, 2018.  Limited tickets and table sponsorships are still available.
