Community members, friends, Board Members, and many others gathered in Young AmeriTowne last April to honor Dr. Nancy J. McCallin, former President of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

Young AmeriTowne served as a perfect backdrop for the event as five Colorado community colleges team-up every year to support this hands-on lesson in free enterprise.  Thanks to Arapahoe Community College, Community College of Aurora, Community College of Denver, Front Range Community College, and Red Rocks Community College, fifth grade students can explore future career options at the Belmar AmeriTowne College. In addition to financial support, these educational institutions donate uniforms and decorations to make the AmeriTowne College shop feel just like a real college, and they provide a “Paws in Jobland” game that guides students through different career options.  Most importantly, this partnership helps students envision a future for themselves that involves a college education.

Dr. Nancy McCallin, who retired on July 31, 2018, oversaw the 13 colleges that make up the Colorado Community College System which includes these five colleges.  Collectively, CCCS serves 137,000 students a year in 39 locations. During her tenure, Dr. McCallin expanded access to education for students throughout Colorado.  The recently completed scholarship fundraising campaign allowed thousands of students to pursue an education that would have been otherwise unavailable.

To celebrate Dr. McCallin’s achievements over the last 14 years, the Foundation for Colorado Community Colleges announced the creation of The Nancy J. McCallin Endowed Scholarship, which will provide scholarship funding for CCCS students.  In a press release published by the CCCS, Foundation Board Member Michael Beasley commends Dr. McCallin for her leadership which has had a “transformative” effect.  “Her achievements form a lasting legacy that will benefit community college students for years to come, and this endowment further expands those benefits.”
