Curriculum that goes beyond the classroom.

The International Towne curriculum is built around three key themes and is aligned with Colorado Content Standards, Personal Financial Literacy Standards, and Common Core Standards. Engaging, hands-on activities make learning fun and experiential. This classroom preparation leads up to an exciting culminating day, when students take charge and run International Towne.

Learning by doing.

International Towne is made up of four fictional regions, representing 16 countries from around the world. During their day running the world, students engage in a variety of immersive experiences. They learn about international travel by using a passport, practice exchanging currency, explore global business customs, and gain a deeper understanding of trade, tariffs, and economic interdependence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I get my school to International Towne

To start the International Towne program process, you must book your day of town with our Registration Team, coordinate buses for your day of Towne with us, and pay the $250 deposit fee and sign the contract.

Then it is recommended for teachers to attend an International Towne Teacher Orientation where they will learn about the curriculum and the day of Towne process. After these steps have been followed, the curriculum can now be taught back at school!

Teachers will receive access to our International Towne Dropbox with all the necessary materials, lessons, and activities that International Towne incorporates into its curriculum. It takes just over 17 hours to teach all of the lessons, so we recommend breaking this up over 3 -5 weeks.

After teaching the curriculum back at school, your students are now ready to attend their International Towne fieldtrip, run the world, and take charge of their futures!

How long does it take to teach the curriculum?

The International Towne curriculum is made up of 6 chapters with 20 lessons and several activities. Once a school is registered to participate in our international Towne program, they will be given an International Towne specific curriculum planning table. This table breaks down each chapter, its themes, the lessons and activities taught within it, and the timing for it all. Within our International Towne curriculum, we offer two tiers. Tier 1 is comprehensive and includes each lesson and activity created for a total of about 17 hours of teaching time. Tier 2 is basic and includes a reduced number of lessons and activities for a total of about 9 hours of teaching time. We recommend teaching the curriculum over a 3–5-week time period back at school.

How much does it cost to attend International Towne and is there financial aid available?
The price to participate in our International Towne program varies based on the number of students that are attending and what we call an “economy size”.
For more specific information about pricing, please contact the International Towne Director, Sally Rivera, at srivera@yacenter.org.
There is financial aid available to participating schools. This is dependent upon the number of free and reduced lunches provided at your school. For more information regarding financial aid, please contact our Registrar, Jeremy Ollie, at registration@yacenter.org.
What are the main concepts that students learn while participating in the International Towne program?
Our Curriculum aligns with the Colorado Content Standards, Colorado Essential Skills, 21st Century Skills, and PFL. Details regarding these alignments can be found on our International Towne curriculum planning table. Through the International Towne program, your students will develop many skills including, but not limited to, financial self-sufficiency, career awareness, workforce readiness, team building, global consciousness, and how to run a successful business.
As they are developing these skills, they will be guided by 3 main curriculum themes:
  1. Interdependence
  2. Supply and Demand
  3. Navigating Different Cultures
