If your student’s school has signed up for Young AmeriTowne, a hands-on educational experience in free enterprise, you’re in for a treat! Young AmeriTowne is a beloved tradition that reaches more than 34,000 students every year.
In the next few weeks at school, your student will learn about supply and demand, banking, advertising, careers, business and philanthropy. Their studies culminate in a four-hour day in Young AmeriTowne where students physically apply concepts they’ve learned as they step into roles as Towne citizens.
After visiting Towne, students evaluate the success of their day back at school. Each business group receives a bank balance statement indicating whether the shop ended with a profit, and students receive a personal bank balance statement which they compare to their check register.
Our goal is for your student to have a wonderful experience as they learn how to earn, make and manage money wisely. Below are some “start a conversation” questions that you can use with this learning experience to share your family’s values around money with your student:
- How can you save up for things you’d like to buy? How long will it take to reach your savings goal?
- What careers interest you? What education or training do you think you need for these careers?
- Do you think it is important to budget your money? Why?
