We are looking for incoming 8th-12th grade students to apply to our Youth Advisory Board. No experience is necessary! We’re looking for teens who are interested in business and finance, looking for a leadership opportunity, and can commit to the board for a full year.

What are you looking for in applicants?
Anyone! We encourage any incoming 8th through 12th graders to apply. If you are enthusiastic about getting involved, looking forward to working with a team, interested in making decisions and learning about Young Americans, and ready for some fun, we want you to apply! No previous experience is necessary.
What will I do once I’m on the board?
There is a 4 ½ -hour orientation meeting in August. There is one 2-hour meeting each month from September to May. These meetings take place the third Saturday of each month and are required. During the meetings the board learns about Young Americans, discusses the financial situation, makes recommendations about program areas and much more.
There are many opportunities for additional involvement outside the 2-hour board meetings. Advisory board members are invited to tour the Denver Mint and Federal Reserve, teach Saturday classes at the Young Americans Bank, act as youth representatives at various events, and generally represent the customer base of Young Americans. Members are required to participate in at least three of these outside activities throughout the year.

All board members will participate in a year-long group project that contributes to the success of Young Americans. These project options will be presented during Orientation.
Finally, all board members will be asked to identify a prospective advisor from the community to work with in a mentorship capacity. More information on this will be provided during Orientation.
How to I apply?
Fill out this application and submit it by June 28. You can print it out and mail it in or fill it out online and email it in.
Who do I get my reference letter from?

The reference letter or recommendation tells Young Americans a bit more about how others see you. You can get the recommendation from a teacher, from someone you’ve worked for, or from someone else who knows you well. Be sure to tell them what you’re applying for so they can write about your work ethic, commitment to a group, interest in volunteering and more. Encourage the writer to offer specific examples of your work, ethic, personality, etc.
If I don’t get accepted this year, can I apply again?
YES! We encourage you to apply again next year.
Can I be on the board more than once?
Each year, the board is run by two Co-Chairs. The Co-Chairs are 11th or 12th graders and have been on the board in the past. If you’ve already been on the board and are an incoming 11th or 12th grader, you can email Katie Payer for the Co-Chair application: kpayer@yacenter.org. That application is due in early June.
