With 56,000 volunteers around the globe donating 383,000 hours to nonprofits, we know that the Denver area employees of JPMorgan Chase & Co. are certainly contributing to these incredible numbers of engagement.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. has been a community partner of the Young Americans Center for Financial Education for 15 years. They are a strong supporter both in philanthropic aspects and in donating their time.

Over the past months, team members from JPMC’s local offices have lent a hand to help with a variety of volunteer opportunities at the Center.

Tony Cerrone, JPMC’s Community Manager for Denver, recently raised his hand to be one of our judges for the YouthBiz StartUp program at Strive Kepner Middle School.

All of the students in the YouthBiz StartUp program complete 10 hours of in-school curriculum to learn about business, personal finance, and entrepreneurship basics, which culminates in the creation of their own unique entrepreneurial venture. Each student business team competes for the chance to win $100 that can be put toward the costs of getting their business off the ground.

As a “real” member of the business community, Tony was tasked with determining a winner based on the quality of the presentation, product prototype, evidence of research, and overall business concept. “Seeing firsthand the growth that students are experiencing in creating a product or service is inspiring. Watching the students present their final product is a testament to what they learned,” Tony said after sitting through Strive Kepner Middle School students’ pitches.

It’s always a tough decision, as the students really put so much thought and passion into their business ideas.

“The students are so excited when they see that professionals are in their classrooms and ready to hear their business pitches – they really do feel special and the feedback is always taken seriously,” says Anna Leer, VP, YouthBiz programs.

On another YouthBiz project, Jessica Geist, Private Client Banker, and Derek Stalder, Lead Associate Operations, joined Tony to assemble protype kits for teachers to use with their students as they design their products. More than 50 boxes were put together by this enthusiastic team!

We truly appreciate our corporate volunteers and JPMC has stepped up in a meaningful way with our in-person needs since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
