Young Americans Center for Financial Education (YAC) could not exist without the support of our community. This week we’d like to highlight the unique partnership between State Farm and the students who learn hands-on financial literacy in Young AmeriTowne, International Towne, and YouthBiz.
State Farm’s support of YAC’s Send-a-School initiative helps build a Colorado where every student, regardless of background, knows how to earn and manage money wisely. The Send-a-School initiative provides funds for low-income schools to participate in Young AmeriTowne or International Towne. Last year, more than 8,800 students received $108,000 in aid.
Before students step foot into Young AmeriTowne, they spend weeks getting ready at school. State Farm provides every student with a workbook filled with activities, worksheets, lessons, and information. They practice writing checks, fill out an investment questionnaire, complete a resume, and run-through basic budget skills, all designed to better prepare them for their big day in AmeriTowne.
Not only does State Farm provide financial support, but volunteers also donate their time to help the young learners. State Farm agents worked with Young AmeriTowne citizens and with YouthBiz participants serving as business consultants in shops and as mystery shoppers at YouthBiz business expos.
State Farm has been supporting experiential learning programs of Young Americans since 2004. It is this combination of long-time support, impact, and volunteer time that elevates State Farm’s value to the community. As their motto, “Here to help life go right.®” suggests, State Farm truly is helping to ensure today’s young people are the financially prepared adults of the future.
