Welcome reception
On Thursday, August 22, the new members of the 2013-2014 Youth Advisory Board streamed into Young Americans with their parents. Â Many were escaping the rain north of Denver and others were rushing through traffic coming from far south of Denver.
These 16 newest Youth Board members hail from five grades and 15 different high schools across Colorado. Â They came to the Welcome Reception to meet each other and kick of their term as the newest representatives of Young Americans.
The group enjoyed drinks and appetizers, then headed sat down to hear a short description of each member. Â The introductions included the three words each student described themselves with during their respective interviews. Â These descriptions included “unique,” “loquacious,” “powerful,” and “creative.”
After the introductions, the 16 students posed for their official portrait that will hang in the lobby of Young Americans. Â They were also given instructions for their first meeting, which took place on Saturday, August 24.
Orientation
The Orientation meeting started bright and early on Saturday morning, but the group was excited and talkative as things kicked off. Â Throughout the day the members learned the history of Bill Daniels and Young Americans, planned the schedule for the year, took a tour of the various programs offered, and enjoyed plenty of ice breakers and social time.
The board members all walked away from the Orientation meeting chatting with new friends and mentioning their excitement for the year. Â During September’s meeting, each board member will create a short video to introduce themselves. Â Stay tuned to learn more about these phenomenal teens!
