On Wednesday July 22nd, 2015 the graduation and business forum for the summer class of Aspiring Entrepreneurs (AE) and Emerging Entrepreneurs (EE) took place at YouthBiz in Five Points. Two classrooms full of AEs set up displays and also had products for sale ranging from chocolate covered pretzels to jewelry and t-shirts. The young people in this group were also prepared to give their business pitch to family and friends. Anyone who attended the forum was tasked with voting for Best Pitch, Best Visual Display and Best Overall Business for the AE class and voting for the Top EE business and Top EE.
The winners were:
AE Forum Category Winners:
- Best Visual Presentation: TNK BodyWorks–Tazjae Dickerson, Nkechi Jenkins-Brown, Kenasha Riggs
- Best Pitch: Holy Trail–Lynnsie Holloway, Promesse Nkela, SaDaiveon Blanton-Newell, Kendrick Hurd
- Best Overall Business: Spectrum Designs–Rachel Roberts, Chauncy Ward, Kai’re Willis
Top EE business:
- POPT: Trinity Washington, Armando Arjon, and Kaba Kone
- Top EE: Kennedy Mayfield
In total, AE businesses grossed $390.87! That’s a remarkable achievement for only six weeks of work. The AEs were paired with community leaders which made the forum and summer session happen. Without their guidance, it would have been difficult to go as far as we did in such a short time.
A big thank you to the mentors and to wonderful volunteers from Mortenson Construction who helped make sure the event went off without a hiccup!
