In 2022, the Xcel Energy Foundation revised its grant program to bolster their community impact, better align with the company’s business priorities, and reflect their diversity, equity and inclusion commitments.
The new program, Energizing the Future, strategically targets their foundation giving within three focus areas: STEM Career Pathways, Environmental Sustainability and Community Vitality.
To further demonstrate Xcel Energy’s commitment to the improvement of their philanthropy, community impact and stakeholder engagement, the foundation increased its focus area grant budget from $3.8 million in 2021 to $4.4 million in 2022.
Young Americans Center’s Young AmeriTowne program is proud to represent the “M” in STEM to help further Xcel Energy’s key priority of ensuring students have exposure and access to equitable and high-quality science, technology, engineering and math education – all critical to their mission and future success. Young AmeriTowne participants were part of the almost 1.5 million K-12 students nationwide that Xcel Energy has supported as a part of this initiative.
Through the Young AmeriTowne curriculum, students learn about producers and consumers, revenue and expenses, and supply and demand. They learn about budgeting and what it takes for an economy to run smoothly. This all comes into practice when they attend their day in Towne where some students have the chance to run the Xcel Energy “shop.” The manager, accountant and field technician all help to provide maintenance to the shops learning that for all of the other businesses to operate, it’s important to ensure Towne is “energy efficient.”
We were thrilled to attend the Xcel Energy Colorado Community Partner Grant Reception in July. It was fantastic to meet Xcel Energy team members, connect with fellow grantees and enjoy the “energy” at 40 West Arts District.
Here’s to another year of making our community partnerships thrive!
