Young Americans Center for Financial Education hosted the first of many Colorado UpLift Pitch Competitions. Student business teams from four Denver Public Schools participated: Smarty Pen from Hill Campus of Arts and Science, Safety Security Jewelry from West Generation Academy, Spillow from West Leadership Academy, and Biz Wiz Pillow from Skinner Middle School.
Each team had five minutes to pitch their company to four business leaders from the community. The judges then evaluated each pitch and awarded an overall winner. Congratulations to Smarty Pen for taking first place!
Thank you to our judges, Paul Dorr, Equity Partner (Retired), Enduring Resources; Ivan Anaya, Principal, Astucia Development; Karrie Fletcher, Senior Vice President, Alpine Bank; and Matt Ward, Assistant SCS Supervisor, Amica Mutual Insurance Company.
“The Shark Tank event truly embodies Young American’s commitment to advance the social and economic prosperity of Denver’s future community and business leaders,” said Matt Ward, assistant sales and client services supervisor in Amica Insurance’s Denver Regional Office. “The presentations were delivered with professionalism, creativity and, most importantly, teamwork. The Amica Companies Foundation was proud to support this wonderful contest, and we look forward to each participant’s future success. We’re happy to partner with Young Americans to support the YouthBiz program, as we help build enduring relationships with these bright students and their communities.”
This partnership was created in great thanks to the leadership at Alpine Bank. Thank you to everyone for your support and commitment to these aspiring entrepreneurs! View photos from the event here.
