Katie Cawley was the College President when she and her 5th grade classmates ran Young AmeriTowne more than a decade ago. This spring, she was back in Towne, excited and feeling “so fortunate for my own students to have this powerful program.” Katie, a first year teacher at St. Mary’s in Littleton, still has her Young AmeriTowne checkbook. And she’s grateful to donors and sponsors for giving her students what she calls “the most fruitful, life-skill oriented lessons of all.”
Katie took a financial literacy class in high school, but says “It was Young AmeriTowne where I learned the most foundational skills: things I was able to take into my adulthood.” In fact, she credits Young AmeriTowne for making her a “financially savvy adult.” That’s why, she said with a big smile, “I wanted it so bad for my students.”
Welcome back Katie, and the whole team from St. Mary’s. You make up the passionate team of dedicated teachers, donors and staff who believe that every child, regardless of background, deserves to grow up with the skills to earn, make and manage his or her money wisely. Thank you donors: your gifts impact today’s students and tomorrow’s teachers (and accountants, auto techs, designers, construction workers, tellers…)
