Going to the grocery store, your options of popcorn flavors are pretty dismal: butter, unbuttered, maybe caramel (if you’re lucky). Seventeen-year-old entrepreneur Promesse stepped up to provide the good stuff, creating Pop It!, a not-your-typical popcorn business. Pop It! sells uniquely flavored popcorn such as Oreo, M&M, and even taco – flavors one would dream of finding at the store. While discussing his business and where it is now, Promesse gives lots of credit to his time in YouthBiz, stating, “YouthBiz helped me turn my dream into a reality.”
Promesse started YouthBiz back when he was 13 years old, coming back to the program for another 2.5 years. The program delivers technology and digital skills critical to aspiring entrepreneurs through a vast array of avenues. These include: 10-session StartUp and Out of the Box school-based programs that introduce the entrepreneurial process, regular workshops such as Website Development and Digital Marketing, Summer Camps, and biannual Marketplaces where youth sell their products to the general public.
Partnering with Comcast has made a tremendous impact helping young business leaders develop skills in utilizing technology to advance their entrepreneurial goals and overall success through YouthBiz programming. Comcast’s grant of $20,000 to YouthBiz in 2019 reflects their commitment to helping people fully participate in the innovation economy, investing in community programs that help individuals develop technology skills needed for the 21st century business world. Funding helps fill the pipeline of future entrepreneurs and employees with diverse youth who have experience with the technology skills they need to succeed in business and stay relevant in a changing marketplace.
Comcast is proud to deliver this impact. According to Mary Spillane, Director of Community Investment at Comcast, “At Comcast, we make a difference in our local communities by investing in organizations across Colorado, such as Young Americans Center For Financial Education, to drive positive, substantive change. One of our key community impact focus areas is around investing in efforts that increase technology access and expand digital skills. We’ve been a long-time partner of Young Americans, as we believe in supporting their programs, like YouthBiz, that open new doors to opportunity for local youth. The innovative, entrepreneurial skills our youth learn through their programs help these Colorado entrepreneurs compete in the 21st century economy.”
“If you want to do YouthBiz, it will be a life-changing experience,” Promesse states. YouthBiz helps young entrepreneurs think big and go for their goals and dreams. Inspired by his favorite entrepreneur, Bill Gates, Promesse says his goal is to change the snack world. One thing is for sure—once you have Pop It! popcorn your snack world will definitely be changed for good!
