Giving Students Real Energy Savings Experience
Every day at Young AmeriTowne there’s a team of students in red shirts all over Towne, reading meters, checking the efficiency of the HVAC system, changing out energy hogging light bulbs and handing out tips on energy efficiency. They’re the business team from the Utilities Shop sponsored by Xcel Energy, a valued Young Americans partner for an amazing 18 years.
Xcel Energy is proud of its role promoting innovative energy solutions to meet the growing needs of citizens in eight Western and Midwestern states, including Colorado. In partnership with its customers, regulators and elected officials, new ideas can be continually advanced at Xcel Energy to serve as a national model.

Xcel Energy Foundation provides a grant in support of Young AmeriTowne as part of the nearly $3.8 million in grants awarded (in 2015), and a team of volunteers from Xcel Energy helped build a robust career-for-a-day experience for the students running the Utilities Shop. In addition, Xcel Energy supports financial literacy through participation in the YouthBiz Stars event held in October. Thank you, Xcel Energy and Xcel Energy volunteers!
