Executive Committee Member Michael Gersack of Xcel Energy has been a Young Americans Center for Financial Education board member since 2011. “Kids and money matters are important to me,” says Gersack, “especially when I see the issues my own teens face.”
Michael has a strong background in finance, leadership and the energy industry which he brings to governing Young Americans. Michael is Vice President of Customer Care for Xcel Energy, Inc., which serves more than 5.3 million electric and natural gas customers. In this role, Michael leads 1,000+ employees with responsibility for the company’s customer interactions, billing, credit, low-income programs and meter reading functions. His 15 years of experience with Xcel Energy and more than 20 years in the energy industry include serving in a variety of leadership positions in finance, accounting and customer operations.

Michael put together a team from Xcel to turn the Xcel-sponsored Energy Shop at Young AmeriTowne into a true career-for-a-day experience for students. Michael’s community service demonstrates his personal investment in improving youth education by serving on both Young Americans Center Board and the Board of Directors for Colorado Education Initiative.
Michael holds a Master’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Denver’s Daniels School of Business and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Denver. He also is a certified public accountant.
