Success Strategies for NEW participants is a class at Young Americans to answer any questions and provide guidance for day-of marketplace operations. Several first time participants attended this class last Saturday, including Madeline, 8, of Box Art, and Jaden, 12, the sole owner of Deodorant Dude. I am excited to try some tamales from Rio, 12, of Tio Rio Tamales.
We discussed customer service, promotion, pricing, competition, and day of operations. Businesses had time to work together and be creative to make flyers to help market their businesses. We shared the flyers with the class, and then ended the class by watching some of the Y.E.S. (Young Entrepreneur Spotlight) videos on www.builderslab.org. Check them out for business knowledge and inspiring stories!
Success Strategies for ALL participants was next and is for new and returning participants with specialized instructions and activities to enhance individual businesses. The young business owners from the first class were joined by veteran marketplace participants and we worked on differentiating and growing their businesses. Jack, 13, big brother and employee to Evelyn, 9, of Evelyn’s Cotton Clouds was able to help explain EOU (Economics of One Unit) to the class. He helped the other businesses figure out how much they needed to sell their items in order to be profitable. Finally, all the businesses practiced giving 30 second business pitches in front of the class.
