Every year, Young Americans Center for Financial Education selects a new group of middle and high school students to serve on the Youth Advisory Board. This year may look a little different with virtual meetings and socially-distant events, but it won’t stop the board members from learning all they can from Young Americans.
The Youth Advisory Board meets once a month to advise and oversee Young Americans Bank and the nonprofit programs of Young Americans Center for Financial Education. In addition to learning about all Young Americans has to offer, the group will decide which nonprofits will be featured in the flagship Young AmeriTowne program, they will aid in fundraising efforts, and they will have a consistent social media presence by authoring posts and writing blogs. Along the way, Board Members will gain valuable professional development skills such as how to write a resume and network within the community. Plus, they will grow their own knowledge of financial concepts by researching and presenting their ideas to their peers.
Co-Chairs Will Forbes and Amelia Marcum are excited to take on the challenge of connecting with the Board Members via zoom and implementing the new task and learning opportunities. Together they have set forth the following goals for the year:
-
Actively participate in the process of increasing the financial literacy of the youth of Colorado and serve as role models for the organization’s younger eutraupenuers
-
Facilitate a strong community of young leaders that feel comfortable sharing a diverse set of ideas.
-
Host several professional development seminars to give members learning and networking opportunities for college and beyond.
-
Give back to the community during this difficult time through volunteering and active civic engagement.
Young Americans is grateful to have such ambitious Co-Chairs who want to make sure the Board Members get the most out of their year.
Congratulations to the 2020-2021 Youth Advisory Board!
