Students run their own life-like business in the Young AmeriTowne Belmar Medical Center, supported by Lutheran Medical Center.
Award-winning care is one of the many exemplary benchmarks displayed by Lutheran staff and is embodied as a hallmark skill in a slightly smaller (but just as mighty!) team of student staff members at the Young AmeriTowne Medical Center. This healthcare “facility” is one of the 17 mock business storefronts inside the mini-society of Young AmeriTowne, where 5th graders run their own life-like business community together for a day.
Recent Young AmeriTowne summer participants recognized that the Medical Center is the glue that keeps citizens at their best – it is commonly the most popular business to “apply for.” In her mock interview for the Health Technician position, a recent summer camper described her passion for this work: “I’m interested in working at the Medical Center because this is the shop that does the most good for the people in AmeriTowne”, (Ava, 2020 Young AmeriTowne Summer Camp participant).
Before their first job in AmeriTowne actually begins, campers must complete rigorous customer service training to ensure they follow through with upholding the same values promoted by Lutheran, like integrity, safety, stewardship and a caring spirit. Megan Durning, Vice President of Strategy at LMC from Lutheran Medical reiterates, “It’s remarkable that children can engage and absorb such a strong sense of passion and urgency for helping their community. We are proud to help initiate and support this level of stewardship in young people through our sponsorship of Young AmeriTowne.”
