This month we highlight students from Thornton High School and Denver Jewish Day School who are serving on this year’s Youth Advisory Board: Emmy Alvarez and Ariana Bates-Erlich.
Emmy is a senior at Thornton High School where she serves as class president, FBLA chapter president, is a member of the THS Hispanic Latino Student Union, and is a full International Baccalaureate Diploma Student.
Emmy was selected as one of 4 representatives of Colorado for the Bank of America Student Leaders Program for the Summer 2022 and was recently awarded Governor’s Letter due to outstanding Community Service. She also serves on the panel for racial equity, inclusion, and diversity on the Superintendent Student Leadership Council.
Outside of school, Emmy is a member of the Make-A-Wish Colorado Youth Leadership Council and participates in Invest in Girls, an after-school program that empowers young women interested in the field of finance.
Emmy is inspired by the services financial consultants provide and passionate about financial literacy, affordability, and accessibility for under-represented populations. For her, education is a stepping stone towards a solution.
Ariana is a junior at Denver Jewish Day School where she is on the honor roll and the varsity basketball team. Outside of school, she has participated in an immersive language study program in Israel and served as a volunteer for the Listen Foundation and Jewish Family Services, and serves on the board of BBYO, a Jewish youth group.
Ariana has worked on several projects which emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives, community, and youth leadership. She recently ran a program for secondary school students aimed at drawing on inter- and intrapersonal perspectives regrading complex sociopolitical issues in Israel. She led students who safely and respectfully explored how their personal beliefs dynamically shifted based on context and topic. Ariana’s understanding of the complexities of global cultures, history, and sociopolitical issues, will serve her well as a business leader, roll model and advocate.
The Youth Advisory Board will certainly benefit from the insights and passions of these go-getters.
