AmeriTowne On the Road set up at Pueblo Community College

Young AmeriTowne On the Road, presented by CoBank, wrapped up its last session in Pueblo yesterday!  The two-week visit was a great success, teaching 253 students financial literacy in a fun, hands-on way.

AmeriTowne On the Road has stopped in Pueblo every year since the program began in 2014.  This tradition is particularly meaningful to Towne Director Chris O’Reilly, who led the very first visit.  “It really hit home for me when a Mayor from Desert Sage Elementary School talked about how excited the class was to run AmeriTowne,” Chris said.  “The Mayor related how 5th graders had come back to school with great stories year after year, and how this year’s class couldn’t wait to participate.  I’m so glad we are able to return to this market year after year.”

Incredible community support made this visit possible.  Local presenting sponsor Legacy Bank’s Regional President, Andrew Trainor, visited Young AmeriTowne On the Road and encouraged students to practice philanthropy during their day.  Students have an option to donate their AmeriTowne dollars to one of three different Colorado nonprofits, and donations are matched at 10% by OtterCares Foundation.  Through Legacy Bank’s partnership with Pueblo Community College, the program was held at the Student Union.  In addition to exposing students to a potential higher education path, “Being in the [Student Union] ballroom provided a huge wow-factor for the students–it even had chandeliers,” noted Assistant Director Ali Bruegger.  Little Ceasar’s Pizza owner Dave Feamster even provided a pizza lunch for every student who participated.

After a short break, AmeriTowne On the Road is headed to Greeley in February.
