Young AmeriTowne is celebrating 25 years of teaching young people all about economics in a fun, hands-on way!  Since 1990, more than 347,771 future doctors, graphic artists, technicians and accountants have walked through our doors, and we expect to see another 26,000+ this year.

In preparation for the first day of Young AmeriTowne on Friday, September 11, staff and sponsors have been working hard to get the shops in top shape.  As work is finishing up, we thought you might like to have a sneak peek at a few of the renovations!

Looking into shop 1The Market at Young AmeriTowne Denver has undergone a dramatic revamp thanks to the amazing staff at King Soopers.  The shop is bright and friendly with colorful walls and oversized photos from King Soopers’ newest store in downtown Denver.  Topping it all off is a new check stand with a light that turns on and a scanner that reads and weighs products and even makes an authentic electronicshop exterior beep.

Xcel Energy has transformed the Utility Companies at the Denver and Belmar Young AmeriTownes as well.  A vivid wall-graphic exploring different energy sources and a sleek interactive tablet lets Utility Company workers and their customers find energy-saving tips.  There are even real utility meters in the shops around Towne for the Utility Company technicians to read.

Finally, students working at the Young AmeriTowne Denver Medical Center this year will find a completely new shop designed by the creative team from Children’s Hospital Colorado.  Lockers now store student belongings, the walls are colorful and exciting, patients will receive a free sticker after their visit, and new hand sanitizer stations will help keep the Towne citizens healthy.

Young AmeriTowne has never looked better, and believe it or not, there are even more renovations to come in the next few weeks!  For information about how your school can visit Young AmeriTowne, visit https://yacenter.org/young-ameritowne/.
