The Youth Advisory Board at Young Americans Center for Financial Education provides a valuable youth perspective to the organization while youth gain experience in leadership, business, and philanthropy. Â Each year, two Co-Chairs lead the Board by planning and running meetings, setting annual goals, and checking in regularly with staff. Â They also help emcee the annual Spotlight on YouthBiz Stars gala! Â This year’s Co-Chairs are Caroline Burke-Dullinger and Medha Pan, and we’re thrilled to share more about them in today’s blog!
Caroline is a Senior at Colorado Academy in west Denver. Â She is a member of her school’s swim team and tennis team, and she’s very involved with the Colorado Academy Horizons club which provides educational opportunities for low-income youth throughout the Denver metro area.
When Caroline was 7, she opened a bank account at Young Americans Bank, something she still remembers today. Â “It was an amazing opportunity to be able to learn about banking, something that’s so integral in daily life, at such a young age,” she says. Â As a member of the Youth Advisory Board last year and as Co-Chair this year, she’s been thrilled to meet youth from all over the state and to learn more about the work of the organization.
Medha is also a Senior, and she attends Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora. Â There, Medha is a member of the National Honors Society, tennis team, and Future Business Leaders of America. Â She volunteers at Parker Adventist Hospital once a week.
Like Caroline, Medha has had a “amazing” experience at Young Americans. Â Her first encounter with the organization was when she attended Young AmeriTowne in fourth grade, and she knew right away that she wanted to continue her journey. Â Medha was a member of the Youth Advisory Board last year before rising to Co-Chair this year, and she credits her experience on the board with helping her gain a “better understanding of the real world, developing financial literacy, and learning the importance of teamwork, communication, and networking.”
Youth Advisory Board applications open each January! Â If you (or your rising 8th-12th grader) is searching for a meaningful and insightful experience, consider applying.
