This month, Young Americans Center for Financial Education would like to introduce someone who has been involved with hands-on financial education for years: current Young Americans Center Board Member and former Young Americans Bank customer, Tamara Doi Beck.

Growing up in north Denver, Tamara Doi Beck was one Young Americans Bank’s first customers when it opened in 1987.  Tamara remembers bringing her piggy bank to the Bank to deposit money into her savings account, helping her save for items that her family couldn’t afford.  “I realized that by owning a business and making my own deposits in the bank, I could be in charge of my future,” says Tamara.

Fast forward a few decades, and Tamara is now Senior Vice President and Director, Public Funds & Taft-Hartley Plans at Northern Trust Asset Management. In her role, Tamara delivers investment solutions, including equity, fixed income, and alternative asset classes, for these institutional segments on the West Coast.  She now realizes the true impact of Young Americans Bank as in institution committed to creating opportunity and empower youth to be financially capable.

Tamara has covered the west region since 2003 and has 20 years of financial industry experience, all of it developing business and managing client relationships with institutional investment programs.  Prior to Northern Trust, Tamara held positions at Janus Capital Group, where she was Managing Director, responsible for new business development with public, corporate, endowment and foundation plans. Previously, she was Director of Business Development for LMCG Investments and Senior Vice President for Neuberger Berman. Tamara also held several roles at Morgan Stanley Investment Management for over six years, most recently as Vice President of Institutional Sales on the Public Funds Team.

In addition to her role as Board Member, Tamara is an active mother in her community.  She serves on the Investors in Education Committee for the Neighborhood Youth Association, and Tamara also founded the Pat Doi Memorial Award at Denver East High School which provides laptops, calculators and books to students with significant financial need, who have overcome obstacles and exemplify compassion.  Tamara’s early head-start on financial know-how is something she’s passing on to her children, too.

  1. As a proud parent of Tamara Doi, I had the privilege of watching and supporting her as she studied and took the initiative to learn and apply how to become a financially competent individual. Mainly her mother, Patricia Elayne, helped Tamara develop and foster how to responsibly manage her finances. Tamara wisely utilized all her knowledge and experiences throughout her career to become such a successful member of our financial community.

It is truly a blessing for me to bear witness to the many ways Tamara has made such a significant difference as a career professional, dedicated and loving wife, mother and valuable member of her community. And , of course, the best daughter a father could ever hope to have!
