We were thrilled to host some very promising young entrepreneurs at Young Americans last week. Students from DSST Stapleton and DSST Green Valley Ranch have been participating in a Startup Colorado entrepreneur class over the past two months. The culmination of the class was a pitch by the best businesses from each class.
The extra-curricular classes were well attended and included local
entrepreneur guest speakers each class. The students worked together in teams to devise solutions to problems they saw in their lives, or came up with business ideas that fit an individual passion.
Startup Colorado incentivized the students by offering $15,000 to be awarded on merit, participation, and overall business idea generation. Many of the
students will be able to use money awarded from board members at the school to turn their business idea into reality and also fulfill their senior project requirement.
Each school sent the top three business pitches to the finals. Steve Halstedt, a venture capitalist, and Ross Shell, an owner of a startup, were the judges for the final event hosted at Young Americans in Ameritowne. The youth business ideas ranged from custom greeting cards to non-partisan informative political websites.
Along with their teachers, facilitators, and guest speakers, Young Americans would like to congratulate the three winners!
