Young Americans Center for Financial Education exists to provide hands-on experiences in financial literacy to young people. An important partner in this work is FirstBank, which has supported youth financial literacy since 2005.
FirstBank’s supports a the bank at Young AmeriTowne Belmar. Students can customize their own FirstBank business cards, pass out FirstBank debit card sleeves, count-out FirstBank dollars, write with FirstBank pencils, and wear orange-colored ties and scarves. They gain real life experience as Tellers, handling customer transactions, as Computer Operators, entering deposit and withdrawal information into the computer, as Vice Presidents, paying expenses, and as Presidents, managing the shop and collecting loan payments.
In addition, FirstBank’s commitment to Colorado Gives Day benefits the youth served by Young Americans Center. As it has for the last seven years, FirstBank is doubling the incentive fund offered by Community First Foundation so that it totals $1 million. Every donation made on Colorado Gives Day goes further because it is matched, proportionally, by these two organizations.
Supporting nonprofits like Young Americans Center is central to FirstBank, which is one of the most philanthropic companies in Colorado. In a press release published by Community First, Jim Reuter, CEO of FirstBank says, “It’s astounding to think in 2010 we were hoping Colorado Gives Day would raise $1 million for local nonprofits, and last year alone, it raised over $33 million. As a longtime corporate partner, it’s been an honor to witness this statewide movement not only grow exponentially, but strengthen our nonprofit community year-after-year. We’re optimistic that momentum will continue on December 5.”
