Last month, our entrepreneurship program, YouthBiz, partnered up with the Blair Caldwell African American Research Library to host a 2 hour, 3-week business planning and competition workshop. Two teams of 7th through 9th graders learned about what type of leader they are, what their strengths are and what they could improve on. They also generated different business ideas based on what type of problem they’d like to solve as a team and created a prototype of their product.

The last weekend, consisted of each team pitching their business idea to a panel of 4 judges, while parents and staff watched from the audience. The judges were people from the Denver business community. The team with the best pitch won a $100 in prize money. Both teams did so well, that the judges had to give something to the 2nd team. 1st team won $75 and the second team won $25.  It was a great time and all participants involved truly enjoyed it and learned a lot from their experience!
