Students from Heiman Elementary ran Young AmeriTowne On the Road in Greeley this month.

Young AmeriTowne On the Road returned from a successful trip to Greeley, Colorado this week!  In total, 374 students participated in the program, which was located at Aims Community College from February 7 to 20.

The amount of growth this year was phenomenal.  Last year, 125 students participated, and this year’s number was nearly triple that. This growth couldn’t have been accomplished without strong support from partners including presenting sponsor CoBank and Aims Community College, which provided free space in its Cornerstone Building for the program.  Additional thanks go to OtterCares and Nordson Medical.

I caught up with Towne Director Chris O’Reilly, who shared his favorite moments from the AmeriTowne On the Road Greeley this year:

  • A big highlight was students from Centennial Elementary, who travelled 40 minutes from Frederick, Colorado to participate. The students were so grateful for the opportunity to participate, and at the end of the day gave a heart-felt thank you to the teachers that made the program possible.
  • Members of the Cache Bank & Trust Junior Board volunteered with AmeriTowne students from two different northern Colorado schools. The presence of these successful high schoolers served as an inspiration for the fifth-grade participants, and both groups of students thoroughly enjoyed their time together.
  • Students from Heiman Elementary were able to participate because of the Send-a-School initiative, which provides scholarships for low-income schools. Send-a-School allowed teachers to focus on curriculum delivery and planning rather than fundraising.  Teacher Kayla Schlitz noted, “Without Send-a-School, I’m not sure we could be here.”

AmeriTowne On the Road will return to Greeley next winter.  For more information about participating in this hands-on lesson in financial education, please contact Towne Director Chris O’Reilly at
