The traveling version of our award-winning Young AmeriTowne program, On the Road, visited Durango for the first time May 9-20. The visit was a huge success! There were nine 9-R schools that participated in the program, in which students run their own Towne of nine shops for a day. That meant 395 Durango students became new Young AmeriTowne citizens.
One of the most memorable moments from the trip was a visit from Durango Mayor, Christina Rinderle. Her stepson was elected Mayor of AmeriTowne, and Mayor Rinderle helped him cut the ribbon and officially open the Towne for the day.
Our visit to Durango would not have been possible without the extraordinary support of the Durango community. The Durango Education Foundation funded each school’s visit, making it possible for students to attend for the first time. Sponsors CoBank and Alpine Bank Durango also deserve a shout out for their support of AmeriTowne On the Road. And finally, we’d like to thank the amazing On the Road staff that provided an exceptional experience to this outstanding community.
On the Road will be back in Durango again next May! Visit our website to learn more.
